But time went by and the boy grew older

The tree was often alone

And one day boy came to the tree.
有一天男孩兒來(lái)到大樹(shù)前

And tree said,"Come, boy. Come and climb my trunk,
大樹(shù)說(shuō)，“來(lái)吧，孩子，快來(lái)，爬上我的樹(shù)干，

And swing from my branches and eat apples,
在我的樹(shù)枝間蕩秋千，吃我的蘋(píng)果，

And play in my shade and be happy."
在樹(shù)陰間小睡，你會(huì)很快樂(lè)的”

"I am too big to climb and play", said boy,
“我已經(jīng)長(zhǎng)大了，再也不能那樣爬樹(shù)玩樂(lè)了，”男孩說(shuō)，

"I want to buy things and have fun.I want some money.“
我想買(mǎi)自己想要的東西，讓自己快樂(lè)，我需要錢(qián)，

Can you give me some money?"
你能給我一些錢(qián)嗎？”

"I am sorry", said the tree,
“對(duì)不起”，大樹(shù)說(shuō)，

"I have no money. I have only leaves and apples.
“我沒(méi)有錢(qián)，我只有樹(shù)葉和蘋(píng)果，

Take my apples, boy.
拿些蘋(píng)果走吧，孩子。

And sell them in the city and you will have money.
在城里賣(mài)個(gè)好價(jià)錢(qián)，你就會(huì)有錢(qián)的，

And you will be happy."
你就會(huì)很快樂(lè)?！?/div>

So the boy climbed up the tree,
于是男孩兒爬上大樹(shù)

And gathered her apples, and carried them away.
摘下她的蘋(píng)果,把它們帶走了

And the tree was happy.
大樹(shù)很快樂(lè)

But the boy stayed away for a long time…
但是男孩一走便走了許久

And the tree was sad.
樹(shù)感到十分傷心

And then one day,the boy came back,
?有一天,男孩兒又來(lái)到大樹(shù)前

And the tree shook with joy.
大樹(shù)喜若狂

And she said," Come, Boy,
她激動(dòng)地說(shuō)，“來(lái)吧，孩子，

Climb up my trunk,and swing from my branches
爬上我的樹(shù)干，在我的樹(shù)枝間蕩秋千，

And be happy."
你會(huì)很快樂(lè)的”

"I am too busy to climb trees,"said the boy.
“我太忙了，沒(méi)工夫爬樹(shù)玩?！保泻⒄f(shuō)道

"I want a house to keep me warm," he said.
“我想擁有一個(gè)家，讓自己溫暖”，他說(shuō)，

"I want a wife and I want children,and so I need a house.
“我想有自己的妻子和孩子，所以我需要一間房子，

Can you give me a house?"
你能給我嗎？”

"I have no house," said the tree.
“我沒(méi)有房子”大樹(shù)說(shuō)，

"The forest is my house.
“樹(shù)林就是我的家。

But you may cut off my branches and bulid a house.
但你能剪下我的樹(shù)枝，建起你的房子。

Then you will be happy."
你就會(huì)很快樂(lè)的?！?/div>

And so the boy cut off her branches
于是男孩兒剪下大樹(shù)的樹(shù)枝

and carried them away?to build his house.
帶走了它們，建起了自己的房子

And the tree was happy.
大樹(shù)很快樂(lè)

But the boy stayed away for a long time.
但是男孩兒一去又是許久

And when he came back,the tree was so happy.?She could hardly speak.
當(dāng)他回來(lái)，大樹(shù)喜不能語(yǔ)

"Come, boy." She whispered,"come and play."
“來(lái)吧，孩子”，她低語(yǔ)著，“過(guò)來(lái)玩吧?！?/div>

"I am too old and sad to play," said the boy,
“我太年老了，我很悲傷”，男孩兒說(shuō)，

"I want a boat that will take me far away from here.
“我想要一艘船，帶我遠(yuǎn)離這片土地，

Can you give me a boat?”
你能給我一艘船嗎？”

"Cut down my trunk and make a boat," said the tree.
“砍下我的樹(shù)干做一艘小船”，樹(shù)說(shuō)，

"Then you can sail away, and be happy."
“你就可以遠(yuǎn)航，你就會(huì)快樂(lè)”。

And so the boy cut down her trunk
于是男孩兒砍下她的樹(shù)干，

And made a boat and sailed away.
做了小船揚(yáng)帆而去。

And the tree was happy, but not really.
樹(shù)很快樂(lè)，但真是如此嗎？

After a long time
過(guò)了很久很久

The boy came back again.
男孩兒又回到了大樹(shù)前

"I am sorry, boy", said the tree,
“對(duì)不起，孩子”，大樹(shù)說(shuō)，

"But I have nothing left to give you.My apples are gone."
“我已一無(wú)所有，沒(méi)什么能再給你的了,我已結(jié)不出蘋(píng)果?！?/div>

"My teeth are too weak for apples," said the boy.
“我的牙齒已經(jīng)咬不動(dòng)蘋(píng)果了”，男孩兒說(shuō)。

"My branches are gone", said the tree,"You cannot swing on them."
“我也沒(méi)有樹(shù)枝了”，大樹(shù)說(shuō)，“你再也不能蕩秋千了?！?/div>

"I am too old to swing on branches", said the boy.
“我太衰老了，已蕩不動(dòng)秋千了”，男孩兒說(shuō)。

"My trunck is gone", said the tree."You cannot climb."
“我也沒(méi)有樹(shù)干了”，大樹(shù)說(shuō)，“你再也不能爬樹(shù)了?！?/div>

"I am too tired to climb", said the boy.
“我太累了，已爬不動(dòng)大樹(shù)了”，男孩兒說(shuō)。

"I am sorry", sighed the tree.
“對(duì)不起”，大樹(shù)說(shuō)，

"I wish that I could give you something…But I have nothing left.
“我希望我能為你做些什么，但我一無(wú)所有，

I am just an old stump. I am sorry…"
我只是一個(gè)老樹(shù)墩，對(duì)不起?！?/div>

"I don’t need very much now", said the boy,
“我現(xiàn)在并不需要什么”，男孩說(shuō)，

"just a quiet place to sit and rest. I am very tired."
“只需要一個(gè)可以坐著休息的地方，我太累了?！?/div>

"Well", said the tree, straightening herself up?as much as she could,
“那好”，大樹(shù)說(shuō)著直了直身子，竭力地說(shuō)道，

"Well, an old stump is good for sitting and resting.
“一個(gè)老邁的大樹(shù)墩正適合坐著休息。

Come, boy, sit down. Sit down and rest."
來(lái)吧，孩子，坐下，坐下休息吧?！?p>

And the boy did.
于是男孩兒便坐下了

And the tree was happy.
大樹(shù)很快樂(lè)
