MONTAGNE: The technology giant, Google, says it plans to build super fast fiber optic networks in some parts of the country. Right now, Google serves up much of what people see on the computer screens, but it doesn't have the physical network to deliver that content. Google has been frustrated by the speed of broadband networks provided by phone and cable companies. It says its experimental networks would be at least 50 times faster than what's now available.

Critics call it a PR stunt. Google acknowledges that it is trying to prod the industry into building better networks so that Americans can have access to technologies that need more bandwidth。
