Temperatures in northern Norway are hovering around minus twenty degrees Celsius - so what better way to spend a winter holiday then in an ice hotel? A night's stay at this unique venue sees guests huddled around ice blocks by candlelight.

It is freezing outside, and in this hotel things don't get much warmer.

The inside temperatures at the Sorris-niva Igloo Hotel remain between -4 and -7 degrees Celsius.

The brisk temperatures are not due to defective radiators, but due to the fact that the Igloo Hotel is made entirely out of ice and snow.

Set in Finnmark, the largest and northernmost county in Norway, it opens its doors every January until it melts away in early spring.

The structure occupies 2000 square metres with 30 rooms, two bridal suites and a big lobby bar decorated with ice sculptures.

Dermot Morrisey and Erengul Yoldas have decided to spend the night at the unusual hotel. The stay was a surprise Christmas present by Erengul to her partner. Erengul says that, even though she had second thoughts after making the reservations, she is now delighted to be able to go through such a unique experience.

Erengul Yoldas, ice hotel guest, said, "I don't know what possessed me for a start. But it is fascinating coming in here. I wouldn't want just come in and have a look and just go away. I would want to stay in here and that's why we are staying. Ask me the same question in the morning but for now is fascinating."

The Sorris-niva Igloo Hotel is built of large blocks of ice and snow, cemented together with "snice", a mixture of ice and snow that works the same way that mortar does in traditional brick construction.

Knut Kjelsberg, the "ice architect" behind the construction explains that even though the costs of ice and snow are free, some minor maintenance work needs to be carried out on a daily basis.

Knut Kjelsber said, "The building costs this year is around one million Norwegian Kroner, that is to say around 100,000 Euro ($136,360 US Dollars). We have used approximately 600 tons of ice to pull it up and around 1000 tons of snow. It's quite a lot of material. But all these materials are free. So what really cost is the working time and the transport."

The lobby bar at the Igloo Hotel is also one of the main tourist attractions in the Alta region.

For a fee, both locals and tourists can visit the hotel and have a drink at the bar. Only blue vodka served in ice glasses is for sale though.

There are four ice hotels in Norway, but the Sorris-niva Igloo Hotel is the largest and northernmost of them.

The Sorris-niva Igloo Hotel has been rebuilt every year since 2000 and receives an average of 2000 guests every season.

Prices range from 340 US Dollars for a regular room to 390 US Dollars for a bridal suite.The bathrooms are in a wooden, heated building next to the hotel.

十年前的冬天，瑞典北部省Lappland的Jukkasjri村的村民們，用村邊Torne河里結(jié)的冰建起了一座50平方米的冰房子，用來(lái)作旅館。這一創(chuàng)意立即吸引了世界各地游客。冰旅館的特別之處還在于每年天氣轉(zhuǎn)暖后，冰建筑就會(huì)逐漸融化回歸河流，因此冰旅館是每年冬天重新建造的，每一年它的造型和布局都不一樣。

如今冰旅館的規(guī)模不斷擴(kuò)大，已是當(dāng)初的10多倍，今年新建的冰旅館需要3000多噸冰來(lái)砌成，可房間仍然供不應(yīng)求。北極圈內(nèi)193公里的冰旅館包括可容納100多人就寢的冰客房，冰酒吧、冰教堂、冰藝術(shù)中心、冰電影院，簡(jiǎn)直像是童話故事里的仙境，這就難怪在2000年冰旅館開業(yè)前就已經(jīng)有一萬(wàn)多人預(yù)定。

雖然這種旅館只有3個(gè)月的存在期，而且房?jī)r(jià)頗高，但是，每年依然都擋不住想入住這里的旅游者。而如果你認(rèn)為身穿保暖內(nèi)衣鉆進(jìn)睡袋乃是一種莫大的享受，那么這種因紐特人圓頂冰屋式的旅館就是相當(dāng)完美的選擇--冰旅館中的一切，全部是用冰建造的，包括接待處、枝形吊燈、桌椅、雕塑以及房間。

雖然溫度很低，但你不必產(chǎn)生"被凍僵"的擔(dān)憂。在登記入住冰旅館之時(shí)，工作人員會(huì)為你提供全套冬裝。當(dāng)然了，保留一絲寒意還是非常值得的，因?yàn)檫@畢竟是一個(gè)冰屋，否則就失去了情調(diào)。

為了建造這樣一個(gè)度假之所，每年都需從附近凍結(jié)的托爾訥河運(yùn)來(lái)3萬(wàn)立方米雪以及3000噸冰。
