A car bomb in Pakistan kills at least 75 people, wounding 60. The blast happened in a crowd of people at a volleyball tournament. Police say 300 people were on the field when the bomber drove up, possibly targeting a meeting of anti-Taliban leaders nearby.

In Brazil, a mudslide kills at least 17 people, crashing homes in the lodge in an upscale resort near Rio de Janeiro. Heavy rains apparently loosened a slab of hillside more than 300 yards wide.

The revelers are gone, done ringing in 2010, now the cleanup back New York's Times Square. That's the Sanitation workers are sweeping, pushing piles of trash.

Freezing temperatures did not stop the brave from taking to the water, marking the annual New Year's Day swim of the Coney Island Polar Bear Club.
