Coldplay是英國搖滾樂壇進入新世紀之后崛起的最受歡迎的搖滾樂隊之一，他們秉承了英式搖滾樂隊一貫的風格，成為了英國新一代樂隊中的杰出代表。并且Coldplay樂隊成軍之后的每一張專輯都不斷進步，一步一步地擴大他們的影響，他們正處于事業(yè)的快速上升期。受到一些搖滾先驅(qū)的影響，Coldplay樂隊的成員從少年時期就拿起了樂器開始音樂表演,都來自普通的工人家庭，Chris Martin從很小的時候就開始彈鋼琴，15歲開始已經(jīng)混跡于各種樂隊，并且得到過Tom Waits的稱贊。Jon Buckland受到了Eric Clapton以及Jimi Hendrix等吉他大師的影響，從11歲開始彈奏吉他。來自蘇格蘭的Guy Berryman則受到了一些Funk音樂熏陶而拿起了貝司。再加入Coldplay樂隊之前Will Champion曾經(jīng)演奏過吉他，貝司，笛子等各種樂器，但是由于Coldplay樂隊成軍伊始缺少鼓手，所以多才多藝的Will Champion便成為了樂隊鼓手和打擊樂器的人選。

《Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends》 是Coldplay出道10年來第四張專輯，于2008年6月12日發(fā)行。專輯的名稱來自于西班牙語，Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends可以直譯為生命萬歲或死亡和他的所有朋友們。這也反映了這一專輯的主題“生與死”。專輯的封面是描述法國七月革命時期的名畫自由引導人民。獲得了2009年格萊美獎最佳搖滾專輯獎的獎項。這張專輯也是2008年全球最暢銷的專輯。
