A Speech by a Representative from College Students on the Public Open Day for College Students of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Celebration of the May Fourth Youth Day

尊敬的楊潔篪部長(zhǎng)，祖國(guó)的外交官們，親愛(ài)的同學(xué)們：
Honorable Minister Yang Jiechi, dear diplomats of the Motherland, dear students:
　　
我是來(lái)自北京大學(xué)外國(guó)語(yǔ)學(xué)院印尼語(yǔ)專(zhuān)業(yè)的本科生王睿君。今年是五四運(yùn)動(dòng)90周年，北大是五四運(yùn)動(dòng)的發(fā)源地，我能夠代表北大學(xué)生，代表前來(lái)參加外交部“五四”青年節(jié)專(zhuān)場(chǎng)的全體大學(xué)生發(fā)言，既感到萬(wàn)分榮幸，又感到無(wú)比激動(dòng)，心中更升騰著一種使命感與自豪感。外交官們平易近人的風(fēng)度，精彩絕倫的講解，深深印在了我們心里；楊潔篪部長(zhǎng)字字珠璣、高屋建瓴的講話(huà)令我們對(duì)偉大祖國(guó)蒸蒸日上和中國(guó)外交蓬勃發(fā)展感到無(wú)比自豪。在此，請(qǐng)?jiān)试S我代表到場(chǎng)的同學(xué)們，對(duì)關(guān)心大學(xué)生成長(zhǎng)，熱情接待我們的楊外長(zhǎng)和外交部全體成員表達(dá)衷心的感謝！
My name is Wang Ruijun. I am an undergraduate majoring in the Indonesian language in the School of Foreign Languages (SFL), Peking University. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the "May Fourth Movement". Peking University is the birthplace of the "May Fourth Movement". I feel greatly honored and extremely excited to speak here on behalf of the students of Peking University and on behalf of all the students coming to attend the Open Day for college students in celebration of the May Fourth Youth Day arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. My heart is fueled with a sense of mission and a sense of pride. We are deeply impressed by the approachable manner of the diplomats and their fascinating introductions. Minister Yang Jiechi’s graceful and insightful remarks made us extremely proud of the rising and prospering Motherland and the vigorous development of China's diplomacy. Here please allow me, on behalf of all the students participating in today’s event, to express our heartfelt thanks to Minister Yang Jiechi and all the hospitable people in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who show care for and interest in the growth of college students.
　　
剛才楊部長(zhǎng)的殷切期望，我們一定會(huì)牢記在心，并以此時(shí)刻勉勵(lì)自己，刻苦學(xué)習(xí)，報(bào)效祖國(guó)。我們也一定會(huì)響應(yīng)楊部長(zhǎng)的號(hào)召，一如既往地關(guān)注祖國(guó)的外交事業(yè)，不僅是因?yàn)椤耙蕴煜聻榧喝巍笔俏覀儺?dāng)代大學(xué)生的使命，更是因?yàn)橹袊?guó)外交日益走近“尋常百姓”，越來(lái)越與普通民眾的工作生活息息相關(guān)?！盎ダ糙A”、“負(fù)責(zé)任大國(guó)”、“軟實(shí)力”、“領(lǐng)事保護(hù)”已成為大家耳熟能詳?shù)脑~匯，“和平發(fā)展”、“和諧世界”、“周邊外交”、“大國(guó)關(guān)系”、“多邊運(yùn)籌”已成為大學(xué)校園里最流行的談?wù)摻裹c(diǎn)。隨著中國(guó)發(fā)展，國(guó)內(nèi)國(guó)外互動(dòng)頻繁，家事國(guó)事天下事都已變成我們的“身邊事”。關(guān)心和支持中國(guó)外交既是時(shí)代對(duì)我們的要求，也是中國(guó)當(dāng)代青年義不容辭的責(zé)任！當(dāng)代青年應(yīng)該胸懷祖國(guó)，放眼世界。
We will keep in mind the ardent expectations of Minister Yang and take them as an encouragement to keep working hard so as to serve the Motherland. We will resolutely answer the call of Minister Yang and continue as always to keep a close eye on the diplomatic undertaking of the Motherland. This is not only because serving the Motherland is the mission of contemporary college students, but also because China's diplomacy has increasingly reached the "common people" and get increasingly relevant to the work and lives of ordinary people. Such terms as "mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation", "a big responsible nation", "soft power" and "consular protection" are very popular words among us. "Peaceful development", "a harmonious world", "diplomacy with neighboring countries", "big power relations", "multilateral diplomacy" and some other terms have also become the focus of discussions on the campuses. As China develops and the interactions with the outside world get increasingly frequent, we must show concern not only to personal affairs, but also to the affairs of the state and the world. Paying attention to and supporting China's diplomacy is not only the requirements of the times but also the duty of the Chinese youth. The young people should keep the Motherland in mind and look to the whole world.
