72歲鮑卡斯成為美國駐華大使(視頻)
The US Senate has voted to approve President Barack Obama's nomination for the new ambassador to China. Montana's Democratic Senator Max Baucus, who has helped steer trade policy with China, was voted in by an overwhelming majority.
72-year-old Baucus has visited China at least eight times. He has also hosted several trade delegations, and as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, he helped enact free trade pacts with 11 countries.
In 2001, he championed China’s inclusion in the World Trade Organization, helping Beijing conduct business with other countries. Baucus is seen as a moderate Democrat. He succeeds Gary Locke, who served as Obama’s Secretary of Commerce before becoming the US ambassador to China.
