Starbucks' head honchos in Hong Kong may have some explaining to do.
香港星巴克的老板大概需要出面做些解釋了。
After photos of a "Starbucks Only" water spout in a bathroom emerged on the web, many customers questioned whether Starbucks is using "toilet water" to brew its coffee.
自從廁所中“星巴克咖啡店專用”水龍頭的照片傳到網(wǎng)上之后,許多顧客都在質(zhì)問,他們是否在用廁所用水制作咖啡。
The series of photos, reportedly taken at the chain's Bank of China Tower location, appear to show a man retrieving water from a spout in a men's bathroom a few feet away from a urinal and then using a container on a cart to transport it to the coffee shop.
據(jù)報(bào)道,該系列照片拍攝于香港中環(huán)中銀大廈,一男子從男廁所小便池附近的水龍頭中接水,隨后用手推車上的容器將水轉(zhuǎn)入咖啡店里。
Hong Kong-based tabloid Apple Daily first published images of the questionable practice along with a report stating that Starbucks staff fetch water from the public restroom in the building's parking garage several times every day and use it to brew coffee.
香港本地報(bào)紙《蘋果日?qǐng)?bào)》率先登出這些令人質(zhì)疑的照片,并附上報(bào)道,稱星巴克店員每天從中銀大廈停車場(chǎng)的公共廁所里多次取水,用于煮咖啡。
The publication, which sent reporters to investigate after receiving a tip, noted that employees filter the water before brewing. It is believed that the practice has been occurring since the Starbucks first opened in 2011.
該出版機(jī)構(gòu)還派送記者在給付小費(fèi)后進(jìn)行深入調(diào)查,發(fā)現(xiàn)員工在烹煮咖啡前會(huì)先濾水。據(jù)信這種做法自2011年這家星巴克首次營業(yè)時(shí)就出現(xiàn)了。
According to the Agence France-Presse, Starbucks spokeswoman Wendy Pang confirmed that water used to brew coffee at Starbucks' Bank of China Tower location was taken from a dedicated tap in a restroom and put through a filtration system in order to meet standards established by local authorities and the World Health Organization.
據(jù)法新社報(bào)道,星巴克女發(fā)言人溫迪-彭出面證實(shí),中銀大廈的星巴克分店確實(shí)有從衛(wèi)生間取水的行為,但會(huì)通過水過濾系統(tǒng),使水質(zhì)達(dá)到地方及世界衛(wèi)生組織的合格標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。
"There is no direct water supply to that particular store, that’s why we need to obtain the drinking water from the nearest source in the building,” Pang told AFP.
彭對(duì)法新社表示:“這家分店沒有直接供水來源,因此我們才會(huì)從距離最近的地方取水。”
However, she added, the branch is now using distilled water.
她還補(bǔ)充說道,現(xiàn)在這家分店使用的是蒸餾水。
While the filtered water may have adhered to set standards, the system may have failed to remove all potential hazards to humans.
盡管過濾水可以達(dá)到衛(wèi)生標(biāo)準(zhǔn),但不可能完全過濾掉對(duì)人體有潛在危害的物質(zhì)。
Ben Cowling, an associate professor at University of Hong Kong’s School of Public Health, told HK Magazine that a filtration system may remove bacteria, but could miss viruses, which tend to be smaller in size.
香港大學(xué)公共衛(wèi)生學(xué)院副教授本-考林對(duì)《香港雜志》說,過濾系統(tǒng)能除去細(xì)菌,但除不掉比細(xì)菌體積更小的病毒。
Cowling also expressed another concern: “If the staff need to frequently visit the toilet they may increase the risk of bringing other pathogens from the washroom into their food and drink preparation area."
考林還說了他另一個(gè)擔(dān)憂:“如果店員頻繁進(jìn)出衛(wèi)生間,他們更有可能將病原體從廁所帶到食品飲料準(zhǔn)備區(qū)。”
