June 16, 1963 - Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to fly in space
June 16, 1963, Vostok 6 is manned, for lack of a better word, by the first woman to fly in space. 26-year-old Valentina Tereshkova, a former __1__, tells a Soviet TV audience that all is going well. Premier Nikita Khruschev promises her a __2__ which she receives after three days of orbiting the earth. Months later Tereshkova again captured the public's fancy by marrying another cosmonaut, Andrian Nikolayev. The world's first __3__ in India and performed a number of __4__ to foreign nations in the following years. By the time Valentina was __5__ space, her husband had flown several mssions, including sixty four orbits in Vostock 3.
