See how many plates we have, but don't count in the cracked ones.

We’d better count noses to see how many drinks we’ll have to serve after the meeting.

To make sure no members of the tour get lost, the tourist guide count noses every time they get back on the bus.

另外take a head count也有“數(shù)腦袋”之意,不過(guò)兩者的區(qū)別是take a head count的使用范圍比較廣,例如在數(shù)贊成和反對(duì)的票數(shù)時(shí),一般不用count noses,而用take a head count,比如:We took a head count to decide the issue.

Count one’s chickens before they hatch. Do you really think you can find a job as easily as that? If you ask me, you’re counting your chickens before they hatch.

Count me in.

The old lady counted out thirty pence and gave it to the shop assistant.
