Why Do We Attend University?

我們?yōu)槭裁瓷洗髮W(xué)？

When we consider why we should attend universities, different people have different ideas. In some students' eyes, studying in universities means a bright future after graduation. They think they are bound to find good jobs with a good college education.

對(duì)于我們?yōu)槭裁匆洗髮W(xué)，不同的人有不同的看法。在一些學(xué)生看來，在大學(xué)里學(xué)習(xí)意味著畢業(yè)后有一個(gè)美好的未來。他們認(rèn)為，有了大學(xué)的教育，他們一定能夠找到一個(gè)好工作。

However, life in the colleges and the jobs that they can find are usually somewhat disappointing. Especially under the severe competition of today's society, it is not very easy for a college graduate to find a satisfying job. As far as I am concerned, universities can provide good study opportunities and essential facilities for those who want to acquire knowledge for the construction of our country, and this is the reason why we attend the universities.

然而，大學(xué)的生活和畢業(yè)后的工作往往使他們失望。尤其在當(dāng)今社會(huì)激烈的競爭下，大學(xué)畢業(yè)生要想找到一份滿意的工作也不太容易。我認(rèn)為，大學(xué)給那些為了國家的建設(shè)而努力學(xué)習(xí)的人提供了良好的學(xué)習(xí)機(jī)會(huì)和必要的設(shè)施，這才應(yīng)該是我們上大學(xué)的真正原因。

NOTES

1. in sb.'s eyes 據(jù)某人看來，在某人心目中。也可以說in the eyes of sb. 或through the eyes of sb. 或to sb.'s eyes。
例：Some customs in Africa seem rather strange in the eyes of the Europeans.（非洲的一些風(fēng)俗在歐洲人看來相當(dāng)奇怪。）

2. be bound to 必定，一定要……
例：be bound to do the work 有義務(wù)做這工作
The new discovery is bound to be of great service to mankind. 這項(xiàng)新發(fā)現(xiàn)對(duì)于人類必定大有用處。
此外，口語中還有I'll be bound.（我敢保證）的說法。

3. as / so far as sb. / sth. is concerned 就……而言
例：This has been a difficult period as far as the country's economy is concerned. 就我國經(jīng)濟(jì)而言，最近是其困難時(shí)期。
我們?cè)賮砜磦€(gè)對(duì)話例子：
A: Have you seen the movie, Scream? 你看過電影《驚聲尖叫》了嗎？
B: Yes. It gave me the creeps. 看了。它讓我渾身起雞皮疙瘩。
A: Come on, it wasn't that bad, was it? 算了，哪有那么慘啊。
B: Yes, it was. As far as I'm concerned, I will never go to see this type of movie again. 真的。對(duì)我而言，我再也不想看那種電影了。
