Majority of Icelanders either believe in or entertain the possibility of the existence of huldufólk or hidden people, and that they live and behave like humans. It is actually a common concern during road construction because elven believers would protest works to be done on land or property of what they believe to be homes of elves.
大部分冰島人要么相信精靈的存在，要么覺得它們有可能存在；他們把精靈稱作“隱藏之人”，認為它們像人類一樣生活。實際上，冰島修路的時候通常都會考慮精靈，因為如果修路干擾到精靈住所就會招來精靈信徒的抗議。
