Over 3.1 billion trips in a span of 40 days, it is the largest Spring Festival travel rush China has ever encountered in its history. And among the millions of travellers taking trains and buses home, students and migrant workers make up the bulk of it. Unlike previous years when school normally ended a bit earlier, the start of winter break this year coincides with the Spring Festival rush. The five days from the 9th to the 13th is expected to be the peak times for students travelling home. According to staff at various train stations across this country, the estimate is that students have made up over 70% of the traffic so far. Not only one of a kind for its size, this year's travel rush is also expected to last much longer than previous years. After the holiday, train stations, bus terminals and airports across the country will brace up for an overlay of migrant workers, students and travellers. To transport passengers efficiently and safely, China's trains are expected to take 2,000 round trips every day during the peak period.
