Thank you for your letter asking about how to prepare for a Band-6oral test.First of all,I think you should get to know something about the format and the scope of the test.An oral test usually consists of three parts:1)A Brief Introduction about Yourself;2)Talking about a Short Topic,3)Some Discussion with the Examiner.

Just like a western meal,the first part of an oral test is just some “salad”which is easy to deal with,while the second part is the“main course”which you need to pay full attention to.You need to make out a list of various topics such as campus life,environment protection,Olympic Games,friendship,etc.Then,you need to think of something to say about each of those topics.Don’t try to give a long lecture,just a few points on one subject.You need to express yourself clearly and your pronunciation and intonation should be acceptable.When you prepare for the topics,you can talk to your classmates,and you can also talk to yourself.You needn’t write down all the sentences and recite them.Never think in Chinese and try to translate them into English.You must learn to use idiomatic English sentence patterns and expressions in your oral presentation.As for the third part of the test,it won’t be of any difficulty if you can get through the first two parts smoothly.

??? 你好!閱讀理解試題是任何一次大型英語考試的重要組成部分,一般占40%的比重。拿大學英語四級來說,如果閱讀理解部分拿不到28分以上,就很難得到通過。

??? 我國大學英語教學大綱規(guī)定,具有較強的閱讀理解能力是英語教學的基本要求。因為對于中國學生來說,通過閱讀英文資料獲取信息的機會遠比通過聽、說獲取信息的機會多得多。

??? 到目前為止,我國許多學校的英語教學,其基本模式一直都是“以教師為中心,以考試為目標”。幾乎是從小學開始,就是幾天一小考,一月一中考,半年一大考,一年一會考,三年一特大考。這種通過沒完沒了的考試來驅動的英語教學,把外語學習的規(guī)律完全扭曲了。衡量英語學習好壞的標準是考試成績,而不是實際掌握的語言能力。數(shù)以千萬計的青少年,被迫在英語考試的陡峭梯級上艱難地逐級往上爬,浪費了大量寶貴的青春時光。多數(shù)人是半途而廢,少數(shù)人爬到了“頂”,通過了托??荚嚕踔恋玫礁叻?,可是實際的英語能力還是差得很,不會說,不會寫,看英語資料總是似懂非懂,往往是關鍵部分看不懂。至于聽的能力,就差得更遠了,到了國外什么也聽不懂。一般都要經(jīng)過半年到一年時間,才能逐步克服語言障礙。

??? 如果我們換一種學法,把“以教師為中心”改為“以我為主,自主學習”,把“以考試為目標”改為“以提高語言能力為目標,通過考試只是一種附帶的產(chǎn)物”,你面前就會頓時出現(xiàn)一幅新境界。我在本刊前幾期回答讀者朋友提問時談到看分級讀物的問題。要提高閱讀能力,就得多讀一些文章。而閱讀分級讀物,是最合理的選擇。只有通過大量閱讀才有可能培養(yǎng)出閱讀能力。對于初學者來說,只有看自己能看得懂的東西,才會有興趣,有收獲。一開始就去啃硬骨頭,一個個生詞要去查詞典,啃到最后還是似懂非懂,只能浪費時間,毫無益處。你大一時就考了56分,如果從那時起,有計劃地自主學習,開始有選擇地大量閱讀分級讀物,注重提高語言能力,經(jīng)過一年努力,現(xiàn)在恐怕考六級都不成問題。

??? 那么,有沒有臨陣磨槍的辦法呢?有。前年我寫過一本小冊子,書名叫《教你如何學好英語》(世界知識出版社出版),其中第十章便是“怎樣提高考試成績?”。
