New Zealand's lost Emperor penguin, "Happy Feet" is recovering at Wellington Zoo where vets say he will have the same chance as any other.

The penguin, nicknamed "Happy Feet", has passed a medical check involving blood tests and x-rays. He has also been given a tracking device just in case he strays off course again.

More than a month ago, Happy Feet was washed up on New Zealand's North Island after he had swum thousands of kilometers from his native Antarctica.

Since then, he's had surgery to remove sand and other debris from his stomach. New Zealand's Department of Conservation plans to return him to the Antarctic at the end of August.

Emperor penguins are the largest penguin species and can weigh up to 30 kilograms.
