近日，美國(guó)發(fā)行量最大的雜志《讀者文摘》出版公司債務(wù)纏身，不得不申請(qǐng)破產(chǎn)保護(hù)?！蹲x者文摘》在美國(guó)陷入經(jīng)濟(jì)困境一方面是因?yàn)榻陙?lái)網(wǎng)絡(luò)的沖擊，另一方面和時(shí)下的金融危機(jī)也不無(wú)關(guān)系。盡管《讀者文摘》在美國(guó)經(jīng)營(yíng)慘淡，但是在中國(guó)的營(yíng)業(yè)額卻增長(zhǎng)穩(wěn)定，不但照常運(yùn)營(yíng)，今年四月還在中國(guó)推出了加長(zhǎng)版。

In April, the 87-year-old Reader's Digest, the most popular general interest magazine in the United States, published its first extended edition in China to enrich the content of the magazine with pictures and words.

四月份，美國(guó)最受歡迎的綜合性人文雜志《讀者文摘》在中國(guó)出版了第一輯加長(zhǎng)版，用更多的圖片和文字使雜志內(nèi)容更豐富?！蹲x者文摘》至今已經(jīng)走過(guò)了 87 個(gè)春秋。

在上面的報(bào)道中，extended edition 就是“加長(zhǎng)版”。不光雜志有加長(zhǎng)版，電影也有加長(zhǎng)版。例如：Fried Green Tomatoes (Extended Anniversary Edition) 是“油炸綠蕃茄（周年紀(jì)念加長(zhǎng)版）”；The Bourne Identity - Explosive Extended Edition 是“諜影重重：火爆加長(zhǎng)版”。

除了 extended edition 外，我們還可以經(jīng)常見到 portable edition（攜帶版），special edition （特藏本），abridged edition（節(jié)略本）。如果是報(bào)紙，版本就更多了，像 Evening edition（晚版）、Sunday edition（周日版）等。修訂本是 expurgated edition 或 revised edition。還有現(xiàn)在也很流行 online edition（網(wǎng)絡(luò)版）。外出還可以攜帶可愛的 pocket edition（袖珍版）。

Extended 還可以和其他許多詞組成常用詞組，如 an extended coverage（增加的保險(xiǎn)承保范圍），extend meaning（引申義），extended family（大家庭），還有 extended play（慢速唱片）。
