1. bachelor n. 學(xué)士，學(xué)士學(xué)位；單身漢

bachelor表示學(xué)士，master表示碩士，doctor表示博士。

bachelor of science? 理學(xué)學(xué)士? bachelor of arts 文學(xué)學(xué)士

另外，bachelor還表示單身人士

I will get my bachelor degree this June.

2. casual a. 偶然的，碰巧的；臨時的；非正式的

表示非正規(guī)的、非正式的還有兩個詞irregular和informal，它們的區(qū)別如下：

casual? 指不太注意場合、儀表等，隨意性強(qiáng)。如a casual decision 草率的決定? casual clothes 便服

informal 指語言、穿著等比較隨便，也指不舉行任何形式或儀式的活動。如an informal visit? 非正式訪問? an informal style （日常使用的）語體

irregular? 指不按常規(guī)、固定模式或計(jì)劃做事。如irregular pattern? 不規(guī)則的式樣? an irregular liner? 不定期航班

Young people prefer casual clothes.

3. trap n. 陷阱，圈套? v. 設(shè)陷阱捕捉

be trapped in 陷入……中? be trapped? 陷入困境，被困住

The police set a trap to catch the murderer.

4. vacant a. 空的，未占用的

英語中empty、hollow都可翻譯成“空的”，但這幾個詞意思有很大區(qū)別：

vacant? 意為“空余的，無人占據(jù)的”，尤其指臨時情況。

empty 意為“沒有東西的，一無所有的”具有“空無一物”的隱含意思，通常與box、bag、room、house等搭配。

hollow 指“空心的，中空的，空洞的”既可以與實(shí)物，如tree、ball等詞連用，也可與words、promise等詞連用，表示空洞的，虛無的。

Here is a vacant room, you can live in for some days.

5. vacuum n. 真空，真空吸塵器

vacuum cleaner 真空吸塵器? in a vacuum 在真空中? vacuum-packed food? 經(jīng)過真空包裝的食品

vacuum-packed food is easy to cook.

6. oral a. 口頭的，口述的，口的

oral test /exam 口語考試? oral surgery? 口腔外科?

I really want to practise my oral English.

7. optics n. （單、復(fù)數(shù)同形）光學(xué)

fiber optics? 纖維光學(xué)? electron optics? 電子光學(xué)?

He is very interested in physical optics.

8. organ n. 器官，風(fēng)琴

organ我們平常見得比較多的是表示器官，也可引申為機(jī)構(gòu)，它還可以表示風(fēng)琴。

Organ transplantation is a way to save one's life.

9. excess n. 過分，過量，過剩

excess baggage? 超重行李? in excess of 超過?? excess supply 超額供給

The staff number of this company has in excess of 800.

10. expel v. 驅(qū)逐，開除，趕出

expel是及物動詞，后面可直接加賓語。be expelled from? 被從……趕出

Because of cheating, this boy was expelled from school.
